Understanding Environmental Exposures and ADHD: A Pathway Forward with Prof. Stephen V Faraone
MEET THE EXPERT WEBINARIUM Datum: 4 september Tid: 17.00-18.00
This presentation examines the large literature searching for environmental causes of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Identifying a common, modifiable environmental cause for ADHD would guide the development of preventive interventions that would markedly improve outcomes. Large epidemiologic, population studies have documented many environmental “risk factors” for ADHD.
Genome wide association analyses have also taught us much about gene-environment correlation, with clear implications for clinical practice. We know of some rare events (head injury, extreme deprivation) that cause ADHD, but common causes have yet to be identified. Dr. Faraone addresses these issues with an overview of key findings and places them in a broader context to facilitate their interpretation.
